William Rankin


William (Bill) Rankin passed away on Sept. 25, 2017 at Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada.

Bill was born in South Bend, Indiana in 1934, where he grew up and developed life-long interests in hunting, art, and auto mechanics. After high school, he attended Notre Dame University on an academic scholarship, and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engi- neering. Bill then proudly served his country as an army instructor at Fort Bliss, Texas, and was honor- ably discharged in 1960.

After earning his master’s degree from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana, Bill moved to Detroit and worked for Chrysler Corporation until the early ‘90s. Mr. Rankin then retired from engineering and moved to Luther, Montana to pursue his first love, engraving. A gifted artist who produced stunning work on knives, guns and belt buckles,

Bill preferred to give his work away rather than sell it.

Mr. Rankin is survived by three children and one grandchild.
