- Your Town
Robert L. Dietz
Bob was born in Joliet on Oct. 17, 1943 where he stayed until he was two years old. He then moved with his Dad, Mom and two sisters, Betty and Shirley, to Fromberg where he also received his education.
A younger sister, Karen, was added to the family. After graduation from high school, Bob stayed home and was his Dad’s right hand man on the farm. He also took care of his Mom as she was diagnosed with MS. In 1977 he moved to Bridger with his Dad and younger sister as his Mom went into the nursing home in Columbus. Bob worked for the Schwends before taking a job on the crew for the Town of Bridger in 1980 where he worked until he retired in 2009.
After that he took life easy, but not too easy, as he built a shed to house his green 4-wheeler that he used to travel around town to the cafes where he and his coffee buddies would discuss the news of the day. Bob enjoyed the lunch and activities at the senior center. He was also fixing up his rental to get it ready to rent. In the evenings he would often go to Karen’s house where they would watch TV or movies in the company of Karen’s cat, Abbey, who would always be on his lap.
Bob was a kind and gentle man who faithfully attended church at the Alliance Chapel in Red Lodge. Bob recently had eye surgery but while recovering from that suffered a heart attack and passed away on Feb. 22, 2014 at the age of 70 years old. His Guardian Angel is watching over him until he arrives in Heaven where he can see all the glory with new eyes. Survivors include sisters, Betty Robertson of Great Falls, Shirley Cates of Missouri, and Karen Dietz of Bridger; three aunts, Jane Lindgren of Joliet, Donna (Frank) Miller of Helena and Frieda Miller of Idaho; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special feline, Abbey. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Bridger. Interment will be in the Bridger Cemetery with a reception to follow back at the church. Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge has assisted with the arrangements.
