In Response

To the Editor,
This letter is in response to last week’s “This Is A Tragedy” Letter to the Editor.  Two Facts:  1. Planned Parenthood is the largest lobbyist and provider of abortions in our country.  2. After 40 years, abortion is still one of the most contested moral issues that continue to divide our nation.  If Planned Parenthood really cares about the 20 other Montana Health Clinics and the 26,000 Montanans who receive family planning and preventative health care services at these clinics, then maybe, they should step back from the government trough and let those agencies that don’t provide abortions get the money they need.
As far as their fiduciary duty........ let me tell you my Planned Parenthood story.  When I was in my mid 20’s, my husband and I had just finished college.  We had one child, and money was really tight.  Thinking that we should wait to have more children until our finances were better, I made an appointment with Planned Parenthood.  I knew that I didn’t have the money to pay the whole bill, but I brought as much money as we could afford, because my husband  & I wanted to pay as much as we were able.  When it came time to pay for my services, I made it very clear to the receptionist that I had X number of dollars to pay towards my bill, but that I did not have enough to pay the whole bill.  She very cheerfully said, “No problem!”  She filled out a receipt and sent me on my way.  It wasn’t until I got home that I actually looked at my receipt.  It showed that the money I had paid was considered a “donation”.  The government was billed for the entire appointment.  Even in my twenties I recognized fraud when I saw it. I never stepped foot in Planned Parenthood again.
