Raucous Western romp coming to Red Lodge
The Red Lodge Theater Company is up to more live stage shenanigans July 24 – 27, Thursday through Sunday as the troupe stages an old fashioned melodrama farce, “The day Black Bart Balderdash and dangerous Dan McGrew went to dueling at Miss Kitty’s Golden Nugget Saloon” written by John Donald O’Shea and directed by Edward Terry. The farce, being held at the Roman Theater, Red Lodge, is a raucous romp of western comedy beginning when Black Bart (Jo Don Phillips) accuses Dangerous Dan (B Rad Anderson) of cheating at cards. In old west fashion, they decide to duel it out at Miss Kitty’s (Bonny Moore) Golden Nugget Saloon. The plan seems simple enough, but a slew of bureaucratic red tape creates hilarious navigational obstacles that must be surmounted before the duel can even begin. The hardly deadly duo are informed that they must apply for a dueling license, purchase a coffin, a will, feed for the hearse horse and buy a burial suit before the duel can commence – and with burial half price after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, they may want to reschedule! Being short on cash, the duo briefly considers larceny, but even larceny requires the purchase of a license, and the law of the land must be followed. Rounding out the ensemble cast of eccentric townsfolk in this dastardly little ditty are Sarah Lorash, Daniel Whitaker, Becky Larson, Chris Benton, Bobbie Wooldridge, Rick Hibbs, Sarah Smith, Lynn Lolly and Guynema Terry. The play is a fast paced farce of hilarious proportions suitable for humanity of all ages. Be prepared to cheer for your favorite characters, and to hiss and boo those possessed of more nefarious and serpentine proclivities. Mark your calendar for Thursday, July 24 and Friday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) Saturday at 5 p.m. (doors open 4:30 p.m.) and 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.), and Sunday at 2 p.m. (doors open 1:30 p.m.) Tickets for this live stage event are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and children 12 and under.
