Rams thrown by Fillies but declaw Panthers
The Rams hosted the Lady Panthers from Park City on Friday, Feb. 1. The Rams jumped out to an early lead and won the game, 55 to 41. Jill Purcell led all scorers with 14 points. She also had 9 rebounds and 6 steals. Rylee Kane scored 12 points and had 7 steals. Stephanie Kreamer, a freshman, led the team with 10 rebounds. The team grabbed 46 rebounds, compared to 29 for the Park City team. The Rams shot 34% from the field, but only 41% from the free throw line.
On Saturday, Feb. 2, the Rams hosted the number one team in 4B, the Shepherd Fillies. The first quarter was a toss up with the two teams battling for the lead the entire eight minutes. The score at the end of the first quarter was 13 to 13. The game continued in much the same way in the second quarter. The Rams were able to outscore the Fillies by two points and take a lead into the locker room at half time. The Rams increased their lead to six points by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Rams struggled to convert their free throws into points, shooting a dismal 1 for 8 from the line. This allowed the Fillies to start chipping away at our lead and eventually win the game 51 to 49. Rylee had a triple-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 steals. Isabella Martin scored a career high 12 points and had 5 steals and 5 assists. The team shot 35% from the field and 43% from the line.
I was extremely proud of how hard the players worked and how aggressively they played. Even though the outcome of the game was disappointing to the team, this is definitely the best basketball we have played all season. This week we will be working on improving our shooting percentages, both from the floor and the free throw line, in an effort to ready ourselves for the district tournament next week.
The Rams will be traveling to Joliet to play the Lady J-Hawks on Thursday, Jan. 7, and will host the Lady Cougars from Columbus on Friday, Jan. 8 to close out the regular season.
