Rams end season with two wins

The Rams ended their conference season with two wins last weekend. These wins resulted in the Rams being tied with Huntley Project for second place in the conference standings. Due to the conference rules for breaking ties, Huntley was awarded second place and the Rams finished third.

On Thursday, Feb. 7, the Rams traveled to Joliet to play the J-Hawks. The Rams struggled for three quarters and found themselves behind at the end of each quarter.

At the end of the third, Joliet was ahead by a score of 34 to 25. The Rams were still down by 8 points with 3 minutes left in the game when we stepped up the aggressiveness of our defense and started getting steals and converting them into points. We only allowed Joliet two fourth quarter points as we went on a 13 to 0 run to take the lead and win the game by a score of 39 to 36. This was a great come from behind win for our team. Rylee led all scorers with 14 points. She also had 8 rebounds and 8 steals. Jill Purcell scored 9 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and Isabella Martin had 11 rebounds.

The Rams hosted the Lady Cougars from Columbus on Friday, Jan. 8th. The Rams took an early lead and controlled the tempo of the game, eventually winning 47 to 38. Rylee had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also had 6 steals. Kendell Prather scored 11 points and had 5 steals. Jill scored 9 points and had 11 rebounds. Isabella led the team with 7 steals.

Time management was an issue in our game against Shepherd, but the team was able to control possession of the ball and run time off the clock in the fourth quarter against Columbus, allowing us to maintain the lead and win the game. As crucial as it was to be able to come from behind against Joliet, it was equally as important for us to learn how to maintain a lead and hold off a run by Columbus in this game.

Many thanks to the boisterous crowd behind the Red Lodge Rams basketball teams last weekend at Joliet an at home.
