Peter Northcutt was committed to the Department of Corrections for 5 years on three felony counts of assaulting a peace officer. Northcutt, 53 of Joliet, was sentenced Nov. 25 at District Court in Red Lodge before Judge Loren Tucker. Prosecuting Carbon County Attorney Alex Nixon had asked for 20 years in the Montana State Prison with eight suspended. Each count carried a 10 year sentence,all suspended. Only the first count had 5 suspended. Last April a jury found Northcutt guilty on 3 counts of assault and not guilty of aggravated animal cruelty for the shooting death of 55 sled dogs, July 21, 2011 at the Northcutt’s family ranch near Joliet.
