Belfry man pleads guilty to fatal crash

A 31-year-old Belfry man has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and negligent vehicular assault for a drunken driving crash south of Fromberg and killed his passenger and seriously injured a 15-year-old girl. Under the plea agreement, Carbon County Attorney Alex Nixon said he would recommend 20 years in prison and restitution when Shawn Edward Christman is sentenced on Dec. 18. Christman was charged after on Aug. 6 crash that killed 22-year-old Keahrcie Ledesma Reel of East Helena and injured a 15-year-old Bridger girl driving the other car. Charging documents said his blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. Christman was released without bail Friday so he could start chemical dependency counseling and have surgery on an eye injury suffered in the crash.
