Just as the paint flowed so did the money at the 41st Art in the Beartooths held at Lions Park last weekend. Not only did the three signature artists, Kevin Red Star, Susan Spero, and David McMasters help to raise over $20,000 for the hosts, the Carbon County Arts Guild, but every other artists’ work caught fire with sales between $500 to $4,000 during a lively auction conducted by John Metcalf. Deborah Kline Sonderman, Executive Director for the Carbon County Arts Guild, called the event “a blockbuster.” Although no amounts are in as yet, Sonderman said the 41st Art in the Beartooths was “the best yet” and will “help keep us open and enhance our education program. It’s awesome.” Lori Murphy of Red Lodge won the raffle receiving Kevin Red Star’s ‘Sweet Corn Women.’ Jack Purcell, the 2013 CCAG Scholarship recipient, raised $1,500 for his work, ‘Heading Home.’ Next year’s signature artist will be Michael Ome Untiedt from Denver.
